Balaklava has a rich history of running wonderfully successful community events. The country community strongly supports its arts and culture, while also delivering major sporting events and celebrating the wonderful achievements of the area at its annual Agricultural Show.

 

Balaklava Eisteddfod

A sub-committee of Balaklava Community Arts Inc established in 1997, the Balaklava Eisteddfod Society holds annual an annual Eisteddfod competition, which provides an avenue for encouraging performers in music and drama.
Via competition, not only are the artistic skills of the performers improved, but they gain confidence, poise, commitment and self esteem, skills which they will later take into the community with them.

Balaklava Eisteddfod provides:

  • Opportunities for performers of all ages to receive critiques of their skills by highly qualified and independent adjudicators.
  • A nurturing atmosphere for all competitors to enable them to gain confidence in themselves and their performance.
  • Recognition for performance that meets the standard expected by the adjudicator.
  • Progression - Every competitor receives a certificate and a written assessment of an accomplished and independent adjudicator.

Balaklava Racing Club

The Balaklava Racing Club was founded in 1903 and is situated at the Balaklava Racecourse, about an hour’s drive from Adelaide.

The club holds many race days at the racecourse throughout the year, highlighted by its marquee event, the Balaklava Cup, which is the largest race meeting held outside the metropolitan area in SA.

This annual event attracts crowds above 12,000 people to the town.

This major event showcases the regions many achievements, in agriculture, horse riding, baking, art and local schools achievements as well as many amusements for the family to enjoy.
